VBS 2010: Aug 1-5

Bee Bold. Bee-lieve. Be HIS.

Planet Zoom is a zip, zap, zoomin’ good time for kids of all ages. There’s a whole new world Planet Zoom where little is BIG.

Kids will meet Scout, a bee in the Planet Zoom hive, and four other bee friends who will guide them through the week. Scout and his friends will guide children through five amaz-z-zing Bible stories that will teach them to be bold bee-lievers of Jesus.

Planet Zoom shares new perspective that encourages even the littlest bee-lievers to make a big difference in God’s big world. No child is too young to understand the depth of Jesus’ love. So prepare yourself for a swarmin’ good time Sunday, August 1 – Thursday, August 5. Dinner will be served Monday – Thursday evenings beginning at 5:30 for all participants. VBS will begin each evening at 6:00 PM.

Please register your children ages 3 through 6th grade by calling the church office at 678-3312. Friends, cousins, grandchildren, and neighbors are all welcome to attend – just let us know. We are always looking for helpers too – call the church office or contact Bethany Mallory at 678-3397.

This week at St. John

SUN JUNE 20- Happy Father's Day!
"Now you tell me, when a father goes ahead and washes diapers or performs some other mean task for his child, and someone ridicules him as an effeminate fool, though that father is acting in the spirit just described and in Christian faith, my dear fellow you tell me, which of the two is most keenly ridiculing the other? God, with all his angels and creatures, is smiling, not because that father is washing diapers, but because he is doing so in Christian faith. Those who sneer at him and see only the task but not the faith are ridiculing God with all his creatures, as the biggest fool on earth. Indeed, they are only ridiculing themselves; with all their cleverness they are nothing but devil’s fools." ~Martin Luther, sermon on “The Estate of Marriage” (1522)

Sacred Places; digital images online

Ted Mallory has posted photographs of St. John Lutheran and a number of other local area churches in a photo galley on facebook. Click here to visit these images

In this gallery I'd like to explore and analyze some of perspectives of and interpretations of places of worship.
I invite you to enter these spaces with me and hoping to share with you what they seem to say to me. I welcome your commentary and want to encourage you to engage in conversation not only with me, but with each other about what you see here.
Perhaps you will look at your own houses of worship a little differently when you're done. Thank you.

Summer Bible Study

Beginning today (Sun. June 6) our Sunday morning Bible class will be studying "The Challenge of Islam (Part 1): What is Islam?" It is estemated that there are over one billion Muslims in the world today. This Bible study, written by Sam Shamoun, an Arab Christian, clearly shows the difference between the works-based message of Islam and the hope Christians share in the saving grace of God in Jesus. Adults and high school aged youth are invited to join us for this enlightening study. We will meet after church beginning approximately 9:45 AM.

Service DVD's Available

DVD's of Sunday worship services are available upon request. Contact the Elder of the month (Kyle Schultz for June 2010) or the church office. A free will offering is suggested to defray the cost of the DVDs.
